Road Watch is a community-driven initiative in Ontario that enables residents to report instances of aggressive or unsafe driving. The program aims to enhance road safety by allowing citizens to document and report dangerous driving behaviors, which are then reviewed by local police services.
How Road Watch Works:
- Observation: If you witness aggressive driving—such as speeding, tailgating, failure to stop at signals, or unsafe lane changes—you can report the incident to Road Watch.
- Reporting: Reports are submitted through the Peel Regional Police website where you can detail the incident, including the vehicle’s license plate number, make and model, location, date, and time.
- Review and Action: Once a report is submitted, police review the information. If deemed appropriate, a letter is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle, outlining the reported behavior and encouraging safe driving practices. Repeat reports involving the same vehicle typically lead to further police action, including direct contact or enforcement measures.

Road Watch Benefits:
• Community Engagement: Road Watch empowers residents to take an active role in promoting road safety within their communities.
• Deterrence: Receiving a warning letter can deter vehicle owners and drivers from engaging in unsafe driving behaviors in the future.
• Data Collection: Reports help police identify high-risk areas and behaviors, informing targeted enforcement and educational campaigns.
Important Notes:
• Anonymity: While your personal information remains confidential with the police, you must provide them with your contact details. This ensures the validity of the report and allows police to follow up if necessary.
• Non-Emergency Situations: Road Watch is designed for non-emergency reporting. In situations where there is immediate danger, such as impaired driving or road rage, you should call 9-1-1.
By participating in Road Watch, you can contribute to a safer driving environment, complementing police efforts to reduce aggressive driving and enhance overall road safety in Mississauga.
