Flooding on a city street

In response to the severe flooding that impacted Mississauga residents during the summer of 2024, Council has approved several measures to provide immediate relief and long-term solutions to help lessen the effects of climate change. Among them are two programs aimed at easing the financial burden being felt by many of you in areas across Mississauga.

Flood Relief: $1000 Grant

The first program is the Residential Compassionate Flood Relief Grant. It provides a one-time payment of $1,000 to Mississauga residential property owners who suffered basement flooding damages during the severe weather events on July 16, 2024, or August 17 and 18, 2024. This will help provide some financial relief to property owners hardest hit by the summer floods. The Flood Relief Grant will be open to the public starting by December 1, 2024.

Flood Prevention Rebates

The second program is the Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate Program which will provide homeowners the opportunity to apply for rebates of up to $6,800 for eligible basement flooding prevention improvement measures. This will help make it easier for you to protect your properties from future flooding incidents. The Basement Flooding Protection Rebate will be open to the public starting in February 2025

Stay Informed

We appreciate your patience while these two programs are being set up. More information will be provided through the City’s website and social media channels closer to the program launch dates. In the meantime, we encourage you to retain receipts and records of the work being done to restore your homes due to flooding as they may be required during the application process.
